Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana

Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) is a health insurance scheme launched by the Government of India for providing medical treatment coverage for the approximate 60 Million Below Poverty Line (BPL) households in the country covering about 300 million people. 75% of the premium is paid by the central government and the remaining amount by the state government. 600 districts in India will be covered in this scheme.

As per the statistics on the RSBY website, 108 districts in 16 states have been covered up to March 2009 and approx 46 lakh cards have been issued, which effectively means that 4.6 Million households have been covered. The Government has fast-tracked the implementation of this scheme and expects to cover all the districts in the country in a shorter time-frame as against the earlier envisaged time-frame of 3-4 years. Similar to other health insurance schemes, every district will have an annual re-enrolment / re-insurance program. The treatment amount of Rs. 30,000 gets ‘re-charged’ in the card each year.

Venture Infotek has successfully undertaken the enrolment of RSBY beneficiaries in one district in Maharashtra, where approximately 70,000 BPL households were enrolled. Venture Infotek now plans to scale up its capabilities and take up many more districts for RSBY enrolments.
